Flickr and Your Many More Ways to Use It

The list is endless because of the public's interest in inventing new ways to use Flickr!
Flickr's communication regarding this:
"Flickr has an open Application Programming Interface (API for short). This means that anyone can write their own program to present public Flickr data (like photos, video, tags, profiles or groups) in new and different ways. There's a long list of API methods available to you to work with, and we love it when this happens, so... go forth and play!" (http://www.flickr.com/services/)

Some of my favorite ones include:
Mappr - Using information from photograph descriptions to map where pictures are taken.
Delivr - Create free e-postcards using your pictures and images in Flickr
Retrievr - By System One Labes - "A lovely experiment, retrievr lets you search and explore in a selection of Flickr images by drawing a rough sketch and then seeing which of our interesting photos come up as a match. Beware! You will spend hours poring over the stunning (and sometimes unexpected) results." (http://www.flickr.com/services/)

Flickr and Your Online Profile

Flickr allows you to not only create a personalized profile name, but also you can create a personalized name for the URL for your photostream.

This can be important if someone is using a search engine to find your photostream, if your online image or profile is important to you, or it can just be a fun way to be an individualize your experience online.

How to do it:
  • Go to the 'YOU' tab
  • Select 'Your Account'
  • Find 'Your Flickr web addresses' - listed underneath 'your profile'
  • Click: Create your own memorable Flickr web address - "It's an easy way to share your Flickr profile and your photostream with your friends"
  • Then simply add your personalized profile name, preview and select!

Flickr and Your Facebook Account

Flickr can work together with Facebook!

Once the two are linked together to communicate, every time you edit or add something to your Flickr account, an update will show up in your newsfeed with a link to your Flickr account for all of your Facebook friends.

By linking the two together you will be driving traffic back and forth, creating a stronger impression of you for your 'friends' by sharing a more indepth experience while utilizing multiplte social medias together.

First in another browser page, open and sign in to Facebook.

Then in your browser that you have Flickr open in: Go to 'Your Account' under the 'YOU' tab in Flickr.
Go to:
Link your accounts to share your Flickr updates on Facebook.

This will open a new window showing your Facebook profile

Flickr as Your Image Library

Flickr can be a place to store photographs and images found on the internet or created by you.

View my Social Media Mixer Flickr Account at: http://www.flickr.com/photos/37757910@N03/

Here I house images that relate to social media that others have posted. It doesn't serve as a photo album or library for my personally created images. It is being used a hub for one type of image.

Using Flickr this way relates to having it be a tool for a blog. If you create a library in Flickr of images, you can then easily have an image ready for every single blog entry, helping to make it easier to keep your blog up to date and current.

Flickr and Your Email

Flickr allows you to use your email to post photos to your flickr account!

This allows you to upload pictures easily while using your mobile phone.

This is also a great function if you are only interested in uploading a photo, as opposed to uploading photos, looking at other peoples' photos, and editing your photo sets. It is a shortcut so you can quickly and easily use Flickr for your basic online photo album needs.

Email it to: reason27uses@photos.flickr.com to have the picture post to your photostream in Flickr!

Simultaneously Email your photo to: reason27uses2blog@photos.flickr.com
This will send the picture to your blog just like if you uploaded it from the flickr site.

Flickr and Your Blog

Flickr can be used to populate your blog with pictures and even whole blog entries in addition. Regardless of where your blog is hosted, you can link your Flickr account to multiple blogs to upload photos and images right into a blog entry!

There are many benefits to using Flickr as a blog tool. Flickr is a convenient place to house all of your photos online. This saves memory on your computer, allows you to access your photographs from any computer connected to the web, and helps you organize them into photo albums.

Flickr also can serve as a photo library where you can search for and upload other peoples' photos to your blog, exposing your blog to a new world of creativity even if you do not have the time (or maybe the talent) to use your own photographs!
